Authors
Note on search heuristics: use, for instance, "marmot m"[au] AND “socioeconomic factors”[mh]“ to perform a a relatively restrictive PubMed search; "marmot m"[au] AND “inequalities”[tw] will usually send more results, yet less focused.
Note on classifying authors: the by-discipline classification can reveal tricky, since disciplines tend to speak to dialogue their fair lot on the topic of health inequalities. Also, many scientists do not hesitate to speak policy
on health inequalities. Last, the list is not exhaustive; authors are ordered alphabetically.
- Epidemiology: Mel Bartley, David Blane, Paula Braveman, George Davey-Smith, Ichiro Kawachi, Anton E. Kunst, Michael Marmot, Johan P. Mackenbach, Margaret Whitehead, Richard G. Wilkinson.
- Medical sociology: Nancy Krieger, Sally J. Macintyre.
- Public health policy: Mark Exworthy, Hilary Graham.
- History of medicine: Virginia Berridge, Dorothy Porter.
- Health economics: Angus Deaton, van Doorslaer, McFadden, Andrew Wagstaff.
- General health policy: Rob Baggott, Christopher Ham, Rudolf Klein, Michael Moran.
- French authors: Pierre Aïach, Pierre Chauvin, Guy Desplanques, Didier Fassin, Marcel Goldberg, Annette Leclerc, France Lert, Annie Thébaud-Mony.
Research tools
This is an eclectic selection of tools I used to learn more about health inequalities when writing my dissertation. It is a selection, which means I cut some sources of information which produced only redundant information, such as Harvard World Health News for example. Needless to say you will very soon get as swamped as I was if you try to read every single bit of information on health inequalities. This topic can be simply not be studied exhaustively or as a whole.
